We ripped the parts out of the Walmart Overpowered DTW1 gaming PC's case, then tested the case just like we would for any other case review.

The Walmart gaming PCs -- the Overpowered DTW1, DTW2, and DTW3 -- all ship with the same mid-tower chassis. We decided to disassemble Walmart's PC and re-build the system with our standardized case testing bench. This is largely an academic exercise to compare the value of the Walmart case versus other market incumbents, seeing as you can't actually (currently) buy the case standalone. That said, it'll help further delve into whether the Overpowered DTW PCs are "worth it," as we can now individually look at the case quality for a $2000 system.

Interesting to note there are threads on Reddit that Walmart has pulled their OverPowered DTW desktop computers from purchase. You can confirm this by trying to view a OverPowered DTW product page and instead greeted with: "Information Unavailable We're unable to show you buying options for this item. Please try again later."

Hello there Steve Burke from Gamers Nexus: I had a feeling that the the case was going to be a pretty big issue for the Wal-Mart Gaming PC. i mean you only have one tiny opening for air intake and no top ventilation at all. Those front fans looked pretty well choked off from the product page and you proved it for me. It is just insane all the corners Wal-Mart is cutting for their lineup of gaming PCs and Laptops. I heard the OEM they are using for their laptops and I heard that their customer service is total crap. They may seem like a really good deal on the surface but once you start digging downward as you have been, they aren't as good of a deal as one would think that they would be.

So what PSU did the DTW3 end up coming with? It couldn't still be the same Great Wall 500W, surely? That would be below minimum spec for the 1080, let alone the Ti.

This video and Walmarts PC are just a resemblance of what it's like to walk into any one of their stores. Sure, it looks great on the outside going in, and even as you enter, you feel pretty confident. But as soon as you're greeted by some gross, fat, obscene worker who doesn't give a shit you're turned off by their inconsistencies and it makes sense. Walmart should have consulted a professional. Instead they have a mixed match bag of horseshit. Yea, their system for the price is going to be good; but it still comes across as cheap. Walmart did themselves no favors with this. Do not buy.

here's the deal: if you're broke like me and have the internet but want a decent as close to higher end pc you can get and dont know squat about them, use the internet to LEARN. 10yrs ago i was stuck w a cheap compaq playing WoW. it later took me getting stung by iBuyPower to be forced to learn about my pc to fix it myself. there are videos showing you how to do every thing from start to finish here on youtube, from a bare bones case to powering it up. also *nod to Tom's Hardware website w/ questions*. use the net to LEARN, people. push all the stupid games, trolls and other garbage out of the way and learn. that pile of crap pc i got from iBuyPower was later to become the first pc i ever rebuilt totally from scratch with just the case from it. the only internet source i had was through that pc, so i had to get it right from the start cuz i didnt have a laptop or another in the bedroom to go look at to make sure. since then i tinkered around with it, upgrades and whatnot, still works fine & was cheap to do with all quality name brand parts, it's alot cheaper than you think. i also recently was able to afford a decent custom built HP Omen. i almost cried when i got it i never had anything so nice, i7 8700k, gtx 1080, liquid cooled. and that pc i built myself showed me something i really, really enjoyed doing. building them is as much fun as simply gaming or surfing on them. dont even consider that walmart crap. i got that Omen so i could keep working on my homebuilt and not have to worry about access to the net. and the gaming is pretty kick ass too.

It's nice that you still create articles to go along with all of the videos and I hope you keep doing that. I prefer reading articles when I just want benchmarks and answers and details quickly, or I'm on the subway, etc. Also, the case looks pretty much identical to the FSP CMT510 or maybe a walmart custom Jonsbo QT03, but they don't seem to have the airflow issues according to the couple of reviews out there. Don't know why. Maybe some spacers and longer screws for the front panel to add like a 3-5mm gap would help?

In most cases I've built in over the past few years (Antec Ninehundred, Antec P180, Thermaltake Armor II, Coolermaster HAF-X, Corsair 200R/300R), I've built for positive pressure and had good results. However, do you generally see better results from positive or negative pressure? Is that something that's case specific?

Honestly with WalMarts liberal return policy, if they upgraded the case a bit and got rid of the glass facade while improving a couple parts such as the power supply, that PC would actually be worth it to quite a few people. Particularly those with fixed incomes that needed the security of being able to simply return their broken machine to a local store. Assuming you can return a machine still under warranty to your local WalMart. I have bought several PC's from IBuyPower and while most have been good, one was a complete lemon and returning it as a disabled person was a massive pain in the butt and a long wait to get the machine fixed.

This is a perfect example of killing your own product. I build PCs for people who are interested in getting a new one, mostly gaming, rarely even casual cheap-ass PC (even tho it's boring). Built dozens of them and I always do my research on best parts for the system's purpose while considering set budget (Ah thank you AMD for giving us Ryzen 2nd gen). Unfortunately, many do not consider thermals, Walmart is not the first case where I saw thermals close to killing or literally killing the system's purpose. I mean.. for that price, they should really ensure the overall build quality. Cooling aside, I agree the parts are OK even tho it's far from "overpowered" and for gaming, I'd really take it a step further (on their DTW3 at least or add real OP DTW4), but.. just as you and many others shared their concerns, I'd definitely look for a quality PSU as well.

Good Video, It would be nice to also see a video on moding this case's front glasses panel mounting, possibly be 3D printing some new mounts for the glasses panel to improve airflow. Plus some new benchmarking of just how much better both the reference system performs in the case and also the supplied Walmart system perform. As moding our pre-built systems is I am sure how many of use started with building our own PC in the first place, and the case looks like it could be quite expectable for a gaming PC, with a little extra work, and not the worst looking either.

The fact that this case doesn't come with any build in USB 3.0 is freaking unbelievable. When I built my first pc about a year ago I was on a budget so I ended up getting the cheapest case I could find that still fit my needs, and yet, even that cheap ass case still manages to have 2 USB 3.0 ports built into the front. What is up with the USB 3.0 blunder? It is 2018, almost 2019? For them to run some weird connector to the back for USB 3.0 seems odd... Even Oculus rift requires 3 USB 3.0 ports (even though you can get away with two 3.0 and 1 usb 2.0). It would be awesome if they could have those 3 USB 3.0+ ports for VR. It is almost 2019, VR gaming is still semi new but anything calling itself a gaming pre-built should support ANY VR gear currently available.

Vor 17 Tage

The PSU looks like it can't exhaust it hot air into the case so it can be blown out. The Fans could be bigger, also 1 on the back and top of the case are essential and it doesn't have it. Why glass? in a case I think it's a bad idea, eventually will be scratched or broken, and why metal? they could be good quality plastic, also why the grid on the fans? they should be completely free to work at optimum capacity. Dust filter, if you have it in a house or office, a maintenance technician could blow it away no problem, or if you're worry about the double bearing fans, then a dust filter, those people making cases have money and not science based education, it makes me want to build my own brand of cases hahaha So Wallmart idiots managed to make a case that at idle will be the hottest of any other case, yes is a feat of stupidity that deserves to be remarked as such
