David is so “pro-Tesla” he looked depressed when the stats for the truck were read. He also quick to point-out the negatives to the truck. Saying “well, that range is without hauling things etc”...What company quotes ranges while hailing trailers or cargo?! PS: David says “those are regular NEMA 5-15 outlets”...but it appears there might also be USB outlets above the regular 5-15 outlets.

Electric motors on each wheel...therefore with sensors to monitor traction (easy to do) there won't be any slippage. This will make trucks which are crappy on snow/ice into a vehicle better than a Subaru in snow. Have a port to charge the batteries, throw in a 3500 kw silent generator and a couple on fuel cans, and you can go anywhere. Drive during the day and charge your truck at night. A small generator (some now have fuel injection) runs much more efficiently than a car engine. Contractors can run the generator during the day to charge the batteries and run their power tools. This could be a game changer.

Very cool. But it doesn't need so much cab, and such a short bed. If you need an SUV, get an SUV. Otherwise, give half as much space behind the front seats, and a foot longer bed, so it will look like a real truck. Same with regular gas and diesel trucks. MUCH prefer my Super Cab F150, or a Supercrew.

Guess what, a gas trucks mileage drops in half when pulling heavy load, except there is no regen with braking on a gas truck. Maybe for the rare times someone would need more range were there are no charge stations, they could put a generator in the bed of the pickup truck (reverse hybrid).

Tesla leaked their truck and said it could hold a truck in the bed of it, I think it was leaked during the semi and roadster reveal, btw did you know he was meant to be the one driving the roadster on stage but it was heavily drunk. The reveal of it should be around 9:50 on the semi roadster reveal, "it's a pick-up truck that can carry a pick-up truck"

This thing is fugly, and I can take the same tesla, change some components and strip it, simplify it to where the range can be extended. THERE IS NO NEED FOR 0-60 IN 3 SECONDS! Why so fast? Eager to crash the fuckin' thing? How about extending the life of a single full charge? Supercharging IS NOT the answer. If you schmucks are about efficiency then do just that; right now its only a stunt performance. And the upfront cost, NOT FUCKIN' worth it for the average consumer.

They seem to set this truck up to sell to "Glampers", which I think is a bad move, but for people who are starting a small business that is mostly around the city and needs a pickup like vehicle to carry things around with this range would be great. Plus the fact you have much lower fuel and upkeep costs would be a big plus. Few people take their Model-X out to the middle of nowhere I doubt they would want to go more out of the way in a truck they may not be able to find charging for. But I think Tesla will come out with something that would go a bit farther and make it for more than just "Glampers" to park next to Escalades and Range Rover at the country club.

The bed is small and the carrying capacity is low when compared to other full sized pickups. The only saving grace is it's towing capacity but the bed is about what a full sized car with the trunk lid removed would carry. So many buy a pickup to use as a car and you get a poor example for either. I love the idea of an EV pickup but I still like an 8 foot bed in my pickup with a small car for a daily driver.

The first company that comes out with a work truck version, eight foot bed and fewer bells and whistles will corner the market. Most contractors only drive about 100-200 miles a day. Most of them would spend 50,000. You could have add-ons like built in 2000 watt inverters to run a job site etc.

Rivian isn't planning on selling anything for at least 3 years if they even really intend to. Right now it's just a cool concept, nothing more. Knowing what happens to most ambitious startups, the odds that they'll actually start selling vehicles in a few years are not good, but I hope I'm wrong!

I am skeptical about the prices. That is a huge battery, 35 kWh bigger than the base Model X, at low volume production, without their own battery factory, plus expensive LIDAR, starting at $10,000 less than the Tesla? Great if they can achieve it, and sure battery prices are falling, as are LIDAR prices, but I am looking for where Rivian might have cost advantages and I see only the opposite. They better be able to sell at a profit, the capital markets are unlikely to be anywhere near as generous as they were for Tesla.

2.2kW / mile???? Terrible... The pickup is massive, this is why they can pack such a large battery. Where will they source the battery from? They will sell very few trucks... Unless they cut a very good deal with a battery company... which is doubtful since they are nobody.

Competition is good but, until they start producing them, at what final cost and at what rate, we will have to wait. It looks like they will get their battery packs and motors from where the German Manufacturers are getting theirs. They come at a high cost, made in low numbers and not as good quality as the Tesla/Panasonic ones. Latest test shows that have a lower charge rate and not the range as the Tesla ones are.

Other automotive company like GM is making their electric vehicle look small, weak, and stupid, of course you can't make sales with cars looking that way. They are still not learning the Tesla way. Stupid looking cars include the Prius, and Nissan Leaf. It sounded harsh to say it like that, but that's reality. People want cool awesome looking cars, whether it is electric or not is another question. It could have been Hydrogen power and if it looks cool and great people will buy it.
