We investigate the current RAM pricing through retail channels, looking primarily at overpriced DDR3 and DDR4 memory in 2018.

If you've been wondering why RAM prices are so high, we dug into 5 years of DDR3 & DDR4 memory price data, looking into potential causes of the cost of memory increase. Memory prices have something of a cycle of increases and decreases. We've seen it in previous years -- 2013 to 2014, for one -- and it's probably going to happen again. The big question is when DDR4 prices will go back down.

I have to say, looking at your charts, at the points where price fixing has been proven, it was always on that upswing, so i cannot see its natural if each time, its found to be price fixing, it seems like they let it lie low for a while, try again, get slapped, go down, then back up again... I know you shy away in the video from mentioning that, but your data plus existing fines for price fixing line up perfectly...

Whut!?!!!!! You got a 16GB ddr4 kit for 80 dollars?!!! Wow that would make Ryzen a budget proposition. I remember when I got 8 GB ddr3 for $40 US, and when I got 16GB ddr3 for $90. These are potentially dark times for PC gaming. Worst Buy wants $900 for a 1050 TI gaming PC. It's the end of Pascal, so sad, gpu prices are going to suck for the next year and a half. AMD it's your turn.

The only reason why I don't buy that R5 2400G I was waiting for so patiently ... . Oh well, I will just get me an A10-7890K and live with it as I have 16 GB of 2400 MHz CL10 DDR3 RAM, two times, and a couple of 2133, 1866 and 1600 MHz Kits ... and three graphics cards, a couple of CPUs and three of four spare mainboards ... . Yeah ... . Call me crazy, it's my hobby.

Note, a $20 price increase for 8 gigs ram for manufacturers, means you pay $40, $60, or $80 more.... Just like when the Gov raised cig tax 75 cents a pack, the MINIMUM the cig companies charged extra per pack was $1.50 ... and it went up from there - because the STUPID GOD DAMNED PUBLIC HAS NO BRAINS AND NO BALLS ANYMORE.

come on this is total bullshit - ram is not gone or missing - supply is and has been immense and large - it's all a greedy money grubbing big fat lie

Why is because they all learned how to collude and screw us all - this crap started in the last administration when for the 1st time since the 1990's and the very beginning of the internet computer component prices failed to continue to reduce in price. Now they have their computers number crunching and colluding for huge profits. Not like memory hasn't been commodified for a decade or so, as they always spike 2 tier older ram as they "claim to be running out" - but then of course the supply never dries up, the price drops back and the supply is everywhere.

You showed charts with the number of RAM sales for the past 5 years. Do you have any statistics that can view the past 5 years of phone sales? I doubt they have gone up that much more in the past two to justify the need for all RAM pricing to be so high. If this was really across the board, how do the manufacturers explain the rapidly falling prices for SSDs?

usually i f demand increases you build more factory , so story how Mobile phones now SSD also what a pile of garbage ,are course for high GPU prices is idiotic . IF price is high , you do tend to invest in to manufacturing it, that is what Trump does , hes an investor , thats what investors do , analyze market and make good investments , need memory here you go , how long will these paid shills just repeat propaganda

Silicon thats what chips are made from , no shortage there , the situation is called Monopoly, those few manufacturers are only on paper , because monopoly is illegal , just like AMD and Intel , same thing , different brand otherwise would be monopoly

Really not sure since there is not a lot of information of what RAM is made of other than silicon. But there has to be a reason for there only being a handful of manufactures who can create memory when it's one of the most needed thing for electronics there is.

what raw materials are they lacking ?

Vor 8 Monate

Yes price fixing is likely the cause as well but if that was not the case and they are not price fixing then the raw materials needed for memory would be the bottleneck in the chain.

Vor 8 Monate

No, they even have space for manufacturing and for RnD to make new modules , DDR6 and HB2 , in my opinion its just a money grabber woudnt be the first time , or world industry went to shit, there are examples of that , my 10 year old PC case , normal one , is now impossible to get , quality went down a lot , my new GPU is also peace of plastic, not even heat pipes any more , think about it , today things are real cheap . That sshould be said , not making excuses about some lack of memory or miners . ITs simply economy going down and build quality with it . My 2 Cents , not Jeyz

What about the articles and news about Samsung increasing production "greatly" and should be in effect by Q1 2018? I personally think we are at the peak of ram prices and they will start to lower now. It may not drop significantly, but I think we should see a steady decrease once these changes are in effect to being atleast a somewhat more reasonable price, obviously it would probably be 2019 by the time we see super low prices like we had in the past

So if you’re tying to not put a lot of blame on cryptocurrency miners, and you want to say “oh cell phones, SSD’s, and other things use the same memory and that’s what’s causing it” then why are the phones not being sold out due to low supply everywhere and SSD’s aren’t low supply they’re just expensive. But still not quite as bad as a GPU ($200-300 for a damn GTX 1050Ti is just insane). The pricing is hugely related to miners wether or not everyone wants to admit it!
