Hardware news this week critically focuses on China's claims of finding price fixing evidence in the RAM supplier investigation.

The biggest news for the week is the item on the price fixing investigation into the memory supply industry, which is also our first topic in the round-up. We also talk rumors of Intel 10-core desktop CPUs, rumors of RTX 2060 benchmarks vs. the GTX 1060 and 1070, and official news -- like Intel's ongoing CPU shortage and 14nm shortage. Further, board partners are overrun with too many excess video cards, leaving them with a profit downturn for 4Q18.

Why don't they also investigate the hard drive manufacturers? Prices have still hardly dropped since flooding. 7 years ago. SSD has taken a huge share in that amount of time, so hard drive demand should have dropped, and prices should have. Along with recovery and the demand, prices should have dropped. A 6 TB drive should cost now what a 2 TB drive did back then.

Yeah, I'm sure after being caught once they all became sweethearts and would never ever think of doing anything bad again... Hahaha. Oh yeah, the current norm is Make so much money that even if they are caught the fine would never put a dent in earnings so they can do pretty much anything they want with very little fear of being hurt in any meaningful way.    It would be great if they actually jailed the offenders, that is about the only way they would see long term results for the norm of gash and say oops, and gash again and say oops again and just walk away laughing because they got their bonus and so much money that a fine is nothing to sweat over.  Remember when Intel put the screws to Amd,  Oh yeah, AMD won the case and lost the war back then.  wow, justice is a joke when it comes to the mega companies and the real loosers are always us, the end user.

Maybe there wouldn't be a shortage if Intel didn't waste silicon and fab time on too many different CPUs that aren't really that different. Same for nVidia, the 1050 and 1030 shouldn't even exist.

I'm building a new PC in Jan/Feb 2019. Should I be buying the MB and/or GPU now? (Asus ROG Strix B450i / GTX 1080 or GTX 2070) Since mining is down I assumed prices are more likely to go down than up by waiting (especially since the 2070 is so new and I'm hoping sales are low), but if companies are forced to raise prices to prop-up profits and the trade war gets worse maybe I'm taking on a bigger risk than I thought.

I'm also appalled at the pre built computer companies buying packs of ram and putting one stick in machines. You see what is happening here. Without so much evil government over regulation, these companies wouldn't need to price fix. And indeed they wouldn't. The market would decide that those ram sticks were worth $17 each, (or some such) and that is where the price would level out at. And without the ridiculous taxes and regulations leveled on these companies, they wouldn't have to make sure the price stayed so high in order to make a profit. Just like when the potus lowered the tax rate and whadaya know? All these big corporation started giving raises across the board! So don't blame the companies for trying to survive. Blame your local evil, thieving government.

Greed does indeed make one STUPID. If you over price things it just means that people put off buying or don't buy at all. So how the F does that work for them. IDIOTS. Although I’m nearly 100% certain there is price fixing, don’t be fooled: this is nothing but strong arming by China. They want to break into the RAM market and are using this to delay and get concessions from the big three. Chinese RAM manufacturers (as mentioned in the video) are trying to break into the market. Look foreword to “tech sharing” as part of whatever deal China works out with these companies, followed by dumping by Chinese RAM manufacturers at below cost prices driving the big three out of business. They did exactly this with Solar manufacturing and small micro controller manufacturing in the mid 2000s and 1990s respectively.

I remember reading about the term keiretsu, from Japanese business. Where the leaderships of companies work together, even so much as to own stock in one another and make decisions to sway the finacial structure of the country to being mutually benificial. I feel a similar concept is happening with the industrious of China, and shows a disconect with more western forms of business that prefer to compete.

Data centers save energy. Since energy is a major factor in running one, they are quite efficient. Cloud solutions provide a shift from hundreds of thousands of (energy-inefficient) MERs to highly efficient data centers. Noone is talking about that story.

Also I'm ok with QLC NAND. Even TLC drives have more lifespan than most users could get through. Aren't consumer TLC stuff over 1 DWPD? I would definitely take high capacity SSD's with slightly lower lifespan and performance if the price is right. Especially if I'm using it to install games and let them sit on there, endurance won't be an issue.

the price fixing is down right malicious practice. 2 and a half years ago i got 32GB (2x 16GB sticks DDR4 2400) Gskill ripjaw for 125.99... Currently that same 32gb set of memeory runs 215.. wich is down from 310 from last month.. this is complete BS... price should be dropping, my ram should be ~99$ or so by now, not DOUBLE what i originally paid, and at times triple and almost quadrupled at certain times i saw my memory get up to ~440$ Screw these ram companies... take them for all their gouging worth those pieces of trash...

Nvidia: we don't give a fuck about the next big gimmick... like physx, hairworks, or ray-tracing.... we care about performance, your new cards perform nearly identically to the 10 series cards in non ray-tracing games. The lighting systems found in current games already do an amazing job, ray-tracing is kinda cool but SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THE FOCUS. fuck the 20 series cards. Maybe the 30 series cards would have a similar performance boost to when they first announced 10 series and compared them to the 9 series cards. Until then: I won't be buying these cards.... I would rather buy a bunch of used mining cards and go from there.

How come nVidia has quote "hundreds of thousands if not millions" of 10 series, when just very very very very recently the market was out of stock. I smell a price gouging conspiracy. Serves them right for no releasing the cards when the crypto craze was still here. This news of their "overstock" started right off the bat directly when the craze ended, so I call bullshit on their out of stock they previously claimed.

I'm not buying it. No one can fix prices besides governments. No one controls prices unless the law dictates them. It's been tried many times before and totally failed without government enforcement. Reason being that if anyone tries fixing prices on their own (which presumably means high prices), their competition will be very pleased because that makes it a hell of an opportunity for them to lowball those prices. And hopefully you don't fall for the bullshit in _"anti-competitive",_ as too many people do. Briefly, anything a competitor does, apart from mutually beneficial collaboration, is inherently detrimental to other competitors. So there's no distinction between what they deem _"anti-competitive"_ and what they don't. Anything a competitor does is competitive. The notion of _"anti-competitive"_ is bullshit based on quack economics, which unfortunately our govs are riddled with...

So he was confused, and went to ask his father about the situation. And he father said : "My son, but what if you eventually become Boyfriend and Girlfriend. How sure are you that over the course of your relationship, she won't find another man and leave you behind for that other man? just like how she would want to leave her current Boyfriend to go with you instead?"
