Thirteenth Floor is Downtown Massillon's 1st independently owned contemporary art gallery focusing on the bizarre and macabre. The one man operation run by artist/ musician Billy Ludwig hosts various events monthly that range from artist workshops, themed and featured artist events with live music performances.
Some history...
For some time local artists and Massillon city officials had been discussing and throwing around the idea of building an arts district in Downtown Massillon. In the Spring of 2010, Billy Ludwig decided to give the idea a jump start and converted his rehearsal space for his band Ludwyg into an art gallery to house artwork produced by local artists.
After going through several different ideas for the gallery name, "Thirteenth Floor" seemed to make the most sense as Ludwig wanted everything in the gallery to be original, unique and one of a kind. "As you rarely will see a 13th floor in a building, you will rarely find what the gallery has anywhere else." The name "Thirteenth Floor" was also the title of a song written by Ludwyg. The song was lost along with a nearly completed full album when Ludwig's hard drive crashed.
As artwork submissions flooded in from local artists, the gallery was put together on essentially a zero budget and opened within 2 months of originating the idea on July 17th of 2010.

Thirteenth Floor's mission...
The gallery not only wants to give artists an outlet to display and sell their work, but to bring new life to Downtown Massillon with various free community events, workshops, concerts and showings. Although, we don't have a sign in Downtown Massillon that says "Arts District", we in many ways have one without putting a label on it. The arts community in Massillon is thriving and it's presence is consistently growing with the community's support.
Thirteenth Floor will continue to exploit the arts in Massillon and maintain a strong presence in the community. The gallery has accomplished quite a bit within it's short existence and there's a much broader vision that I will be presenting as we move forward.
